You need to drive both and you will see the differences. If you are gadget freak that loves to tinker with worthless info and toys that does nothing to improve efficiency but feels the eyes, Japanese is your choice.
If you love to drive, enjoy a simpler elegant car, likes to feel the car and the road, does not fades easy, comfy seats. A true drivers car, get a German car. Also is not about running a half a second faster or slower, is the experience. I car that feels in the cloud for me is dangerous, no feedback from the road is the worst experience ever. Drove a Grand Marquis once and that car you could not feel the road. It was hard to drive. The Europeans got it right on the way a car should feel and ride.
Japanese car companies are striving to make a name for themselves, they try hard to make a mark and is way over done. Too many gadgets, or too rough, or too soft, or not enough or way too much. Never liked their designed looks like a cookie cut design. They all look alike.
When a VW TDI smoked a Hybrid Prius on fuel economy that tells you a lot ! The other thing is, affordable luxury is an Oxymoron. Since when Luxury items are cheap? So there you have it, Japanese Cheap Luxury???? Take a look at a 5 year old higher end Japanese car, they look pretty wore out. Their plastics look faded and the seat padding is loosing its contour. A German car is more durable on that turf. They are build to last not to be disposed like a lighter.
Have you ever seen a Japanese car on an Auto Auction? I rest my case !!!

I'm getting my first car nd need advice.... which car is better nd will last longer with less problems... both have gotten well reviews... 2002 Bmw 330ci vs 2005 Mercedes c230 kompressor sports sedan.... dnt wry bout the base price... I saved up 15k to get a nice car ... I've been driving so dnt say neither because ill crash blah blah blah ...nd if neither works out I can always get the new altima nd throw sum tint nd rims on it nd call it luxurious lol... but out of those two... which is better

Without doubt the Mercedes c230 is the better choice here,i have owned one and its been trouble free.The c230 has the right blend of power and fuel economy, and the interiors are much better than the BMW.But before you buy the Merc, please make sure the car you buying has proper service records till date, which is very important, as maintainence can be expensive.
