Used German vs Japanese luxury cars?

Robert W
I'm looking to buy a new car, and I'm debating between BMW, Audi, Acura, Inifiniti and Lexus.
It seems to me that cars of comprable size and mileage, German cars a little cheaper. Is this because they require more maintenance? Is this issue of maintenance for German cars true, or is it just an urban legend? Also, where is a good place to compare car sizes? I want the largest sedan possible. so I've been focusing on the 7 series, A8, and RL.
Answer
If you want the largest sedan possible, than your only options are going to be with BMW, Lexus, and Audi since neither Infiniti nor Acura build a full size luxury sedan. Then you're comparing the Audi A8, BMW 7-series, and the Lexus LS-line.
All three of them are very good cars, they are simply built for different things. This is also a pretty vague question so expect a vague answer. I'm assuming you're referring to the current models since you didn't mention the years or anything else. Always try to be specific if you want a good answer.
The BMW and Audi will be much more engaging to drive than the Lexus (unless of course you get the LS460 Sport, which has a sport tuned suspension, paddle shifters, bolstered front seats, etc). The Lexus, however, will be much more comfortable and much quieter. Overall, it really just depends on what you're looking for. I suggest simply test driving all of them and seeing which one you like the best.
As far as maintenance is concerned, there isn't that big of a difference. It's going to cost just as much to maintain a Lexus as it will a Mercedes, BMW or Audi. The only difference is that the Lexus will probably be more reliable, but if the car you're purchasing still has a warranty that shouldn't be much of an issue anyway.

Nissan Infiniti is the only true luxury Japanese car?

Maverick
It is a good step-up from the Nissan economy cars. Whereas, the Acura and Lexus are merely overpriced versions of the regular Hondas and Toyotas resp.
Answer
Uhm, no. If you look at the infinitis/nissans, you will notice that they are identical on the outside. However, EVERY single lexus has a completely different body than it's Toyota kin. Everyone of them. Also, lexus brings inovations to the table....like an 8 speed automatic that has fewer moving parts and is lighter than the 6 speed auto it replaces!
Nissan is a shell of it's former self now that it's 45% owned by French car company Renault. And the Infiniti QX 56 was the worst rated vehicle in terms of reliability for model year 2005. Something that would have caused mass suicide at Lexus.
