Arent there any Walkable cities in the US?

The cities there are so sprawled out,all the places Ive been to seem so "suburban" and spread out.
The urban planning in american cities suck , 90% of people need to drive . the lack of zoning is just plain silly.
Most people are fully dependent on cars. Sad, but true. that must be why US is the fattest country.

California is sprawl, Phoenix is sprawl, Atlanta, and cities in Texas too .They are hardly walkable at all.
I am in texas & it is the worst offenders in this respect.
This is just my view from living in japan & europe where its convienient, I feel very trapped here!

Answer
New York City. You can walk or use 24 hr public transportation to get anywhere. Everything here is pretty much close together. I am 32 yrs old and have never had a drivers license. Here you could go your whole life and never drive. Driving is actually a luxury not a necessity in NY. I do plan on getting my license, just to have it, but I definitely don't need it.
