Would insurance be expensive on a Chrysler 300C?
Da Smart O
Thanks Yahoo community, I am in the process of getting either a 2010 Buick Lacrosse CXL, Buick Lucerne CXL or a Chrysler 300C. I myself am almost 30. I wanted to ask since the Chrysler 300C has a auto shutdown mode on the 4 cylinders you don't use, and this car is considered a modern muscle family car with a beefy V8 hemi, could that possibly heighten the insurance than normal than the Buicks which are just luxury V6s. Thanks

Well, at age 30 I think the insurance company is more worried about cost of replacement over your age. That's one of the many factors they have when determining your rates. I like the fact your considering a Buick Lacrosse, but the 280hp CXS would be a better choice. The 304 hp Cadillac CTS would be another good choice as well. Even though the Hemi shuts off half the cylinders, it's still a heavy car & would kick on the other 4 even under light acceleration. Back to the Buick, I have a Chevy Malibu LTZ with the same 3.6L V6 used in both of the cars I mentioned. It's tuned down for the Chevy of course, but it's a great engine, One of GM's better creations. Very smooth & responsive. The power just keeps coming on even when pushed to 4-5k rpm's. Plus when I drive conservatively, the mpg's are around 28. Not bad & half the cylinders are not cutting off. The 6 speeds trans used in the cars really drops the rpm's low so it cruises down the hwy w/ little to no effort. Since many of today's V6 engines are making the same hp as yesterdays V8's, why bother. My vote would be the LaCrosse CXS. Just a suggestion.
Edit: Scrap the Lucerne idea b/c they stopped making the cars in favor of the new Regal which just hit the showrooms. Right now only the 2.4L SIDI engine is avalible in the Regal. The turbo charged 2.0L will be out later this yr.

What to look for in a used car under $5K?

Well you have your budget, so the best thing to look for is what you can get for that money. Shop around, use autotrader or comparable classified adds.
The less toys a car has the less stuff that can go wrong with it.
a cars value is directly proportional to amount of luxury and lifespan left. A 5,000 luxury car will not last as long before needing major repairs as a very modest basic car with the same asking price.
know what you want. try to find one with the least amount of miles.
if it seems too good to be true, it probably is.
