What would be a good sport coupe or car for first car?
Mark Picen
I'm looking at a Pontiac G6 and a third gen IROC Camaro. I'm looking to spend under 5k and maybe 6k if its a really good deal. I don't really like Asian imports unless its a Z but that's expensive. I also like AWD or 4WD.
Answer
You named two.
The G6 and Camaro are fine cars.
The is G6 is more boring than the Camaro, but way better crafted, and more fun to drive than any Asian garbage. Nothing but the best goes into American made cars. Their quality and craftsmanship leads the world. The Americans that made these cars believe in putting product first before all. If the Japanese and Koreans could only learn that. They regularly build cheap, unattractive, unreliable, unsafe appliances. To the Asian automakers, it's always about profits. They build cars solely to take your money. If they could sell an Eskimo a glass of ice for $20,000, they would. Isn't that shameful? American automaker would never do that, Ford, GM and Chrysler would put you first... That's why American cars are better But it's still not fair to you or me. If we want to make it fair, I believe we should slap a 180% tax on all foreign cars sold in the United States. Doing that will help slow down these wicked companies from overseas. If they don't like it, too bad for them. If they think they can treat us like **** for all these years, well... we should do the same to them.

I need a fast but fuel efficient car?
I have a ford escort, it gives me about 26 mpg city 34 hwy, i want a fast car that gives me something similar. but something under 6k.
Answer
Last time I checked, they all do 65mph at the same speed. So, your Escort should be just fine.
Okay, that was a smart ass answer. Do you mean sporty looking, or do you mean more HP, or do you mean shorter gearing, or do you mean something else altogether?
To me, the Honda Fit is sporty: it has very tight suspension, and "feels" fast...but it is a hatchback, and its 0-60 is nothing to write home about. But it gets us 35MPG (it was 40MPG when we lived in the desert, the mountains sap a bit of the efficiency). You can get a Civic Sport or Coupe, depending on how many doors you want going fast. You may be hard pressed to find a Fit under $6k, yet, but Civics should be easy to come by in that range.
I am a bit biased, if you hadn't guessed. But a few others that might work:
Toyota has a Sport edition of the Corolla. Some Scion models (xA or tC) might fit the bill. Subaru Impreza comes close...but it probably won't get as good MPG as you are after. Mazda 3 is a nice little car. You might find a Mini Cooper below $6k, but I'd check it out extra closely at that price.
