Ok here is the low down. I have looking for a car for sometime and just don't know if I'm aware of every fun car out there. The car cannot be a 2 seater as I will more than likely carrying people. It needs to be decent on gas (at least 20 in the city). Lastly I can get very bored driving my automatic sedan around that has no pep at all. It doesn't need to be fast as long as it has some pep and fun to drive. It would also be cool if it handled well but thats really not necessary. Like I stated in the question it needs to be under 5k.

Answer
Late 1980's BMW M3. This is the most successful rally car in the history of the sport. Approx. 300hp stock, totally customizeable. Gas mileage at 20mpg is iffy, but if you upgrade the exhaust and air intake you will definitely see an increase in overall performance. You may be able to find one around 5k, but there might be problems. Average cost is closer to 8k, but they are FUN!!!!! Handles like a freakin dream. It's a civilian car designed to be race care lol.

manual transmission coupe under 5k for daily driver and first stick shift car?

John

I am wanting to get a manual transmission coupe for my 3rd car. i am currently learning to drive stick and have done it a few times but will practice a lot more this summer because my buddy's dad has a jeep i'm learning on. My three go tos were the Honda Civic ex or si, Acura Integra rs ls or gsr, and the Honda Accord v6 coupe. I'm pretty damn hell bent on getting a manual because i'm a car guy and automatics bore me and just watching my friends drive stick looks fun. The 4k range is around where im trying to aim for, but it can be difficult because most people have either wrecked or modded the hell out of gsr's and si's which is what im wanting the most. I would like a car with a little bit of horsepower, but nothing crazy i don't want a slow car and i've heard that driving a manual with more hp is usually more forgiving as well. I have been driving for around 2 years now so i'm used to driving so that isn't much of a concern i've already learned my lesson on my first car which was a sports car getting a speeding ticket so i know what im doing.

Answer
The Hondas you're looking at are good candidates. Considering your price range and the fact that you want something sporty, you might consider a Mazda Miata. I know they're not manly, but they are definitely a lot of fun. In addition to making most of them with a manual transmission, you get the handling benefit of being rear wheel drive. Check it out, if you're comfortable enough with your sexuality.
