How to enter sports car racing?
Q. For quiet a while I've been wanting to know the appropriate steps to enter sports car racing. I'm particularly interested in IMSA Lights racing and any kind of entry level open wheel racing. I currently live in Florida. What kind of cars and/or series would be best for this interest, or what steps should be taken?
Answer
Look to the SCCA. Formula Fords and 2000's are great ways to get started in purpose built cars. The other option is to start taking your street car to a high-performance driving event and start learning to drive what you brought.

Is GT racing always going to be the poor cousin of open wheel and profile cars?

If sports car racing was promoted properly, could it be popular again like it was in the days of the Can-Am series? Now that there is so much argy-bargy surrounding F1 isn't it a good chance for GT racing to come back to the forefront again?
Answer
That would be great, I think you're right, there is always a decent crowd for the SCCA June Sprints at Road America. Sports car racing is very competitive and the cars are easy to relate to. If they could come up with a TV package it would bring in some fans, who don't even know this type of racing exists. As far as the Can-Am series, some of my first racing memories were of the ground pounding thunder created by the UOP Shadows . Those are my favorite cars of all time.
