After I graduate college(Dec. 2008) I plan on moving to Chicago. I visited there when i was about 15 and fell in love. I am a very eclectic person who has a passion for sports, music, art, people, and having a good time. I also plan on being single when I go there. Which area of Chicago would suit my personality and lifestyle best? Also, how is the job market?

Answer
Everybody's probably going to say Lakeview, Lincoln Park, Wicker Park, maybe Logan Square or Roscoe Village, and those aren't bad places. I'd like to throw in Edgewater, which is on the far north side of the city, a very diverse community, close to transportation, close to the lake and lakefront bike/running path, lots of new restaurants and small theater companies, new condos but still a few nice rentals (studios, one bedrooms, etc.). Not too far from Loyola University. I'd give it a look too if I were you.

actually any of those neighborhoods and more will suit your lifestyle. I don't know about you, but while I like going out to bars with live music, movies, theaters, etc. I don't want them all jam packed into where I live. You can always hop on a bus or train and get anywhere in the city easily. YOu don't have to have everything right in front of your apartment. In fact, I prefer a little peace and quiet rather than car horns and drunk people and noise and congestion 24/7. You can find all of the things you love here and can get to any one of them in a snap.

As far as the job market, I guess it depends on what you do for a living. Check monster.com or careerbuilder.com or the Chicago Reader website (chicagoreader.com)

where are the most expensive parts of chicago? my boyfriend wants to go there and spend a christmas because being in california, not much of the four seasons....so he wants to go where its really cold for a change and lots of snow. where can we look into? he has the idea of the kind of houses or area like that in home alone movies? are there rental cabins or such?
we're not looking to get a hotel, we wanna find something else. any ideas?

Answer
any rental cabins would be so far from what you're looking for that it wouldn't be worth it.....as i i see it you have 2 options good....stay downtown at the hotel (which all of our holiday activities will be woth your trip because we have soooooo much going on during that time! nothing like the holidays in chicago, the world renowned WIDOWS of marshall fields, the navy pier activities, the parade that kicks the season off, all in the middle of some of the best shopping in the country! u wont see anything like it ,unless u go to NYC MAYBE), then, rent a car and go driving in the north/northwest suburbs for the house tours. that's where you will find the largest houses with the decor you're looking for! that way he can get the best of both worlds!
OR you can stay @ a hotel in the north/northwest suburbs, and come downtown to suck in the activities.....here are some links to help you find a hotel in either area, and give you some ideas of the activites we have during that time.....(all schedules aren't avail YET, check back to these sites usually in SEP when the calendar will be full, or call 1-877-chicago and ask about holiday events)
