What are some good used sports cars for under $5k?
Rob
I have a budget of about $5k. I am wanting suggestions of good sports cars in my price range. I am leaning toward a 99-04 Mustang GT. I like speed, respectability, & confort in my rides. I tend to like american cars more, but I am open to imports. Let me know some suggestions! Thanks.
Answer
The thing is what is an American car as most parts are brought in from elsewhere as well as them having shares elsewhere.

Is it wrong to buy a car out of pleasure?
WRX STI
I love driving my car. I really get a kick out the small features, from the controls at the steering wheel to the ipod functions. I will take my car for miles on end. I can afford that pleasure cause i do not spend my money on anything else, but maybe books and car magazines. Is it wrong to buy a car simply because you want it?
I am talking about a sports car, or investing in aftermarket parts.
Is there something wrong with that hobby?
Answer
When you don't have others depending on you then no, there is no problem with having a car just because you like it, should be happy with what you drive around in.
Having a hobby car is NOT an investment car, you customize your hobby car and will probably spend money on it that will not be gotten back if you sell it. The problems start when you have a family and need to haul people around, money needs to be used for more basic things, like food, clothing and shelter. If you need to buy a bunch of groceries and haul two kids around, having a two seat convertible is not the best option.
Cars can be used as a hobby or for basic transportation, usually one car will not fill that whole role. Besides, you don't want to drive your hot car to a busy parking lot and get it dinged by somebody parking next to it in an old beater they don't care about or drive it in a bad hail storm.
The rule of thumb is, if you decide to have a hot car you really enjoy and want to keep it nice, then make sure you also have an old beater you don't really care about to haul people around, haul stuff and take to not so nice areas, or you have to leave in an airport parking lot or something. It is a lot less headache and heartache so you won't go into some place and keep worrying somebody is going to try and steal your car or hit it, chip the paint or whatever.
I have a really nice sportscar I keep in my garage, but also have an old piece of garbage SUV in the driveway, saves a lot of worrying. A car hobby and interest will never go away, so as you get older you will aquire more, but make sure you always have one you really don't care about that can be used as basic transportation, then you can play with your hobby car all you want without worrying about it.
